About Terry

A note from Terry Ryan

I want to thank everyone who supported me in this campaign, commend the other candidates for stepping up to run for office, and congratulate Ed Kennedy for his victory in the September 4 Democratic Primary. While I was disappointed in the results of the vote, I couldn’t be prouder of the campaign we ran and the terrific team we put together to share our positive message over the past few months.

I want to thank my amazing wife Kerry, our children Alexandra, Matthew, and Emily, and our wonderful family, friends, and supporters who knocked on doors, held signs, and made this campaign something we could all be proud of. The greatest part of this experience was meeting so many people of this district, listening and hearing what’s important to them, and discussing how we could work together at the state level to address the issues. I thank every one of the thousands of people who voted for me. Receiving 56 percent of the vote in Westford (an overwhelming margin in a five-way race), I am deeply gratified that the people who know me best clearly understand who I am, what I stand for, and how I have served this community - and they came out strong to support my candidacy.

Public service is part of my DNA, and I have deeply enjoyed every moment I have served. Thank you for the privilege of being part of this great opportunity.

About Terry Ryan

Terry Ryan was born and raised in Lowell and continues to have deep ties there. A public servant and an engineer, Terry is a strong advocate and proven collaborator who is running as a Democrat for senator from the First Middlesex District, serving the communities of Lowell, Dunstable, Groton, Pepperell, Tyngsboro, and Westford. Terry and his wife Kerry, also born and raised in Lowell, now live in Westford where they are raising three school-aged children, Matthew, Alexandra and Emily.

At his core Terry is an problem solver. From his experience in the high-tech industry to his role as a public servant, he has earned a reputation as a collaborator with the temperament and skills to bring people together and work tirelessly to reach common-sense solutions.

The son of an engineer and a Lowell public-school teacher, Terry was raised by hardworking middle-class parents who instilled in him an incredible work ethic, as well as a commitment to public service and giving back. He has lived those values his entire life.

He earned his B.S. in Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology, an MBA from Framingham State University, and worked for 30 years as an engineer with Raytheon Company and Lucent Technologies. He most recently served as Director of the Merrimack Valley Small Business Center in Lowell, helping entrepreneurs start and expand small businesses to achieve a life of self-sufficiency and a sense of personal achievement.

Terry served for six years on the Westford School Committee, most recently as chair, working on a local level to find solutions and solve problems to ensure that all children attain the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in our ever-expanding global economy.

Terry has lived, worked, and served the people of this district his entire life, from volunteering and working in Lowell to volunteering and serving on the School Committee in Westford, where he has lived for the past 14 years.

This district and our state are facing serious challenges, and we need a serious problem solver. As your state senator, Terry will continue his lifelong commitment to public service and work tirelessly to represent the interests of the hardworking individuals and families of the First Middlesex District.

And just as he has in everything Terry has done in his life—as a citizen, as a public servant, and as a professional—he will get the job done.
